Samantha Mathis was born on May 12, 1970 in Brooklyn, New York to Bibi Besch. She got the commercial and her first acting job that day. Her parents divorced when she was 2 years old so she went with her mother almost everywhere, including auditions and movie sets, even though her parents are divorced they still have an active part in her career from money management to agents. Acting was not Samantha's first career choice, she dreamt about being a fire fighter after she witnessed a fire. Samantha acted on a shortlived TV show called Knightwatch in 1988.
