Kenneth Arnold Chesney was born on March 26, 1968, in Knoxville, and grew up in nearby Luttrell, in the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee. During his college years at East Tennessee State, he became a regular performer at various local venues. Backed by a group of college buddies, he recorded a demo of original material in Bristol, Virginia, and distributed them at his shows. The initial pressing of 1,000 copies sold out quickly, and helped fuel his dream of a chance at a career in music. In 1991, just a month after his graduation from college, he journeyed to Nashville, the mecca of country music.
